This coin featuring the Red Dragon of Wales is the third in the series of the extremely popular ten Queens Beasts. Descending from Welsh Royalty Henry VII adopted the Red Dragon during his time on the throne and has remained present as a crest for the British Monarchy since.

The Original 10 statues, sculptured by James Woodford in 1953, stood guard to Her Majesty The Queen’s Coronation. These statues are now housed in Quebec, Canada at the Canadian Museum of History. Stone replicas can be found in Kew Gardens, London.
