The Yale of Beaufort is the seventh release in the hugely popular series of the ten Queens Beasts. The ‘Yale’ is a mythical beast found in European mythology and the image of the beast was used by the Beaufort family during the fifteenth century – in particular by Lady Margaret Beaufort – Henry VII’s mother, to symbolise a proud defence. The black-coloured Yale, sometimes referred to as a Centicore, has long and flexible horns that can move independently of each other. The Yale is thought to be the size of a horse with an elephant’s tail.

The Original 10 statues, sculptured by James Woodford in 1953, stood guard to Her Majesty The Queen’s Coronation. These statues are now housed in Quebec, Canada at the Canadian Museum of History. Stone replicas can be found in Kew Gardens, London.
